Lowe’s Builds
Benches for Future Park |

About a dozen members of the Lowe’s Heroes
team are constructing eight benches along the network of trails that
crisscross Paradise Creek Nature Park. In all, Lowe’s will donate the
materials and the Heroes Team will build the benches. The seating offers
perfect places for park visitors to take in views of Elizabeth River
Project’s largest restoration site.
The Heroes have also built two osprey nesting platforms. These manmade
nesting sites help keep the large birds away from dangerous power lines
and they can offer excellent opportunities for people to observe the
drama of these amazing predators. The osprey’s six-foot wingspan and
rocket-like dives for fish will be a treat for park visitors. Maybe
they’ll even be viewable from one of the new benches!
Paradise Creek Nature Park will be the third largest park in Portsmouth.
The park is also a model for restoring the larger river and the
Chesapeake Bay—one creek at a time. |
